Research on Music in Digital Media Cultures/Music Journalism

The “Music in the Media / Music Journalism” department conducts research on musical phenomena in both analog and digital media cultures and equally examines the journalistic treatment of music. The program focuses on media-specific design strategies as well as intermedia interconnections, media transformation processes, platform logics, and the influence of artificial intelligence—all with a view to music production, distribution, and reception. The program also examines intermedia journalistic strategies and the hybridization of journalistic forms of presentation. To address these complex interrelationships, a mix of methods is employed that brings together approaches from musicology, media studies, and cultural studies.
