ModusM—Music Education Through Musical Invention—is an inter-university research and development project involving researchers from the University of Dortmund, the University of Bielefeld, the University of Wuppertal, and the Freiburg University of Music. The common goal is the research-based development of concepts for teacher education and continuing education that place production-based teaching methods—such as improvisation and composition—at the center of music education. The project is based on empirical research into constitutive process dimensions and a theoretical review of national and international preliminary work.
