The Musical Project
Music teachers, in particular, are often faced with planning and carrying out musical projects as part of their daily school routine. To give music students at TU Dortmund University an opportunity to try their hand at such extracurricular projects, Miriam Meisterernst and Jan Duve launched the musical project in October 2018.
Through this project, students gain insights ranging from theoretical conceptual planning and practical experimentation during the development phase all the way to the final stage production on stage. The focus is on the students’ independent work. Whether directing, playing in the orchestra, performing as a soloist, being part of the ensemble, or working on the costume or set design team—everyone finds an area where they can get involved and contribute their ideas and skills.
During weekly rehearsals, the soloists and ensemble members receive not only guidance in music and theater education but also professional vocal and acting training from Beate and James Wood. This ensures that the musical project strikes a balance between professional musical theater work and the pedagogical expertise that prepares teacher education students to apply these skills in their future careers.
