Center for Research on Music Education and Evaluation

The Center for Music Education Research is dedicated to promoting and developing empirical music education.

In addition to projects in basic music education research, the center also offers scholarly services in the evaluation of music education programs, initiatives, and projects. This includes supporting early-career scholars in subject-specific, empirically grounded educational research, as well as the ongoing refinement of music education research methods.

In addition to representative longitudinal studies using quantitative methods, the center places a special emphasis on interpretive classroom research—that is, the study of classroom situations from a subject-specific pedagogical perspective using methods of qualitative social research. This involves using interviews, videography, or audio recordings of authentic classroom situations.
